Expert View: FPL Reactions - Louis Roberts

Hey Everyone!

Welcome back to another EXCLUSIVE. I just want to say thank you to those who have joined us over at FFC recently!

Anyway, as part of your UCL Fantasy newsletters I will be revealing my own thoughts, on deadline day and this is the only place you will access them. After all, it’s what gives the newsletter an edge.

Firstly, what do we do? Which teams do we target? Where should we be using our transfers?

One thing I have learnt over the years is that home advantage is absolutely huge. Home teams are usually better, have the crowds behind them, are more likely to keep clean sheets, more likely to score goals, and basically more likely to progress.

With the above in mind, I think it could be worth prioritising your transfers on Manchester City, Barcelona and Bayern.

I think you could also look at Atletico. They may have an away match but they are also one goal ahead and so mostly likely to advance. But, honestly, I’m not keen on them at all, even if they advance, I really don’t want their players in my team even if they progress.

Forward Line

Ok so your forward line is where the action is at this week for lots of reasons.

If you need money I think there is scope to sell one of the premiums. Vinicius Junior is one player I think you can sell. The Brazilian was great in the first round but he was at home and also came up against a Kyle Walker-less Manchester City. This week he plays away from home and Kyle Walker returns from injury, two massive factors that make Manchester City even better than they usually are.

I think we could also consider selling Kylian Mbappe, but he would be less of a priority sell for me than Vini.

Mbappe both plays away and is a goal down going into the tie which means he is likely to exit the competition. So you could actually potentially save yourself a transfer in the next round by selling him.

Selling Mbappe would both give you a problem and a route to go different. The problem with selling Mbappe is of course captaincy on the first day. But, it also offers up an opportunity to go different with the armband. Remember, if you don’t bag a decent captain return on the first day you’ll have plenty of options on the second.

So who would you sell Vini or Mbappe to?

Well, I really like this man.

Pinpointing a Barcelona attacker could be hugely beneficial this week. And although you could opt for Robert Lewandowski, Raphinha is €2m cheaper and you can do a lot with that extra €2m in your team right?

Raphinha isn’t just a cheaper striker but he also covers captaincy on day one, and is in great form going into the game, four attacking returns in his last two Champions League matches to be exact.

Differentials

There are plenty of differential moves you can make including the one above. But, here is a list of inclusions I think could help you gain rank whilst also thinking ahead:

  • Ilkay Gundogan or double Barcelona attack.

  • Bayern double defence or double attack.

  • Owning all three of Kevin De Bruyne, Phil Foden and Erling Haaland.

  • Double Manchester City defence.

  • Bernardo Silva or Rodri.

  • Double Dortmund defence or owning one of their attackers.
