EXCLUSIVE: @FPLREACTION
Hello, we are back for another exciting round of UCL Fantasy.
This week I’m getting straight to the point. Before I touch upon my favourite Bukayo Saka replacements, I think we need to go back to basics.
Captaincy is one of the most important parts of the game, and ultimately vital for success. For that reason, I’m starting on captaincy.
Most will of course captain Mohamed Salah on Tuesday, providing he actually starts. However, if Salah fails to secure a decent return, something he has done in his last two league matches (don’t not captain him because of this), then we need a reliable captain on Wednesday.
For me, whilst Gyokeres, Haaland, Kane etc are all fine, they also all play away from home, in what could be limiting fixtures in terms of potential.
With that in mind, attention should turn to Real Madrid.
Los Blancos have been in top scoring form recently, which is something they seemingly lacked at the start of their new season. In fact, with two or more goals in their previous 10 matches in all competitions, Carlo Ancelotti’s men go into the round producing some of the best scoring form in Europe.
The above goes hand in hand with their upcoming fixture against Salzburg. The Austrian’s, whilst historically tricky opposition, have been woeful defensively this season - conceding a huge 18 goals, whilst also averaging three goals conceded per game.
So, using one of your free transfers (or chips) to bring in and captain a Real Madrid attacker this week could be the most important move you make. Avoiding this, could prove damaging to both rank and mini-league position.
Of the Real Madrid attackers, I feel the priority order should be Mbappe, Junior and Bellingham, in that order. Bellingham last because he hasn’t proved to be as consistent recently, where-as Mbappe seems to have found his rhythm.
This subject kind of leads into our next.
Bellingham may be third on my priority list, but that is only because I trust Mbappe or Junior more for the captaincy armband.
The Englishman ranks much higher on the ‘best replacements for Saka list’, mainly because midfielders aren’t as ‘wanted’ as forwards this week.
I feel like I’m doing Bellingham dirty here. To confirm, Bellingham is an excellent replacement for Saka this week. As well as returning to a number 10 role, he also has an in-form Mbappe ahead of him to convert the chances he creates.
I also think doubling up on the Madrid attack this week against Salzburg could be hugely rewarding. I personally think they will score 4-5 goals, so I’d expect returns from both, more from the forwards, but still, returns from Bellingham too.
There are other replacements I like for Saka this week. Another of them is African player of the year Ademola Lookman.
Atalanta don’t just play in the early kick-off, which means that we can access the line-ups before the deadline, they also play on the Tuesday. That second point is important because it feels like the majority of sides have more assets playing on the Wednesday, so balancing that out could be important.
Atalanta have been exceptional this season in terms of scoring, averaging over two goals scored per game in multiple competitions. This week they clash with Sturm Graz at home, which could mean big potential for both the Italian side and Lookman.
The only con with the Nigerian, is that you can never be sure he will play past the 45-minute mark. But, his explosiveness makes up for it.
I also like Florian Wirtz, Enzo Millot, and Michael Olise, the latter two especially if you need money.
