EXCLUSIVE: @FPLREACTION
Its wildcard time for many, including myself! Now although I won’t be revealing my team today, I’ll be talking about some of the players I think are essential for those using the wildcard, so let’s take a look:
Mohamed Salah
Liverpool are top of the table both domestically and in Europe. Arne Slot and co look irresistible this season, and it stands, sit favourite for the Champions League trophy this time around.
Fixtures against Girona and Lille in their next two matches could see them continue their relentless form and I think Mohamed Salah will be key to that. The Egyptian has already accumulated over 20 attacking returns already this season, and is the best captaincy option on Tuesday, go without him at you peril.
Bukayo Saka
Arsenal are another side who seem to be in a good run of form once more. Their recent 5-1 win against Sporting CP, was a sharp reminder of how much potential the Arsenal attack has actually got, I mean, what a win!
As well having two nice fixtures against Monaco and GNK Dinamo in their next two, they also play those matches at home, a venue they tend to thrive at. For that reason, I would also consider penalty taker and talisman Bukayo Saka an essential. Saka has been in explosive form recently, which makes him the standout captain on Wednesday.
Robert Lewandowski
The elephant in the room is the fact Barcelona face Dortmund next up. But, the German side have been extremely ropey at the back this season, which makes them just an average side when it comes to scoping out fixtures to attack.
The Catalans have genuinely been one of the most exciting teams to watch this season, averaging three goals scored per game, seeing off the likes of Real Madrid and Bayern, and having some of the most in-form attackers in Europe.
One of them is striker Robert Lewandowski, who is one of few players who has managed 20+ goals and assists this season. In a time when there aren’t many reliable forwards for the next two rounds, and considering he’s only €9.5m, save yourself some future pain and just add him in.
Nicolas-Gerrit Kühn
If you are a long-term UCL Fantasy manager, then you’ll know that this season has been unlike many others. This time around, nearly all of the best performing players so far, are the ones that cost a lot of money. In, fact, I’d go as far as saying this has been one of the worst seasons for budget gems in attack.
With the above in mind, and taking into account that good cheap players are like gold dust this season, Nicolas-Gerrit Kühn becomes an essential. At just €4.7m, capable of double-digit returns and with two great fixtures, I cant see a better cheap attacking player in the game to help enable an expensive team.
Trent Alexander-Arnold
Keeping more clean sheets than any other side in the Premier League, along with clean sheets in their last three games against European heavyweights like Leipzig, Leverkusen and Real Madrid, makes the Liverpool defence one of the best to invest in this week.
The standout defender in the Liverpool backline is Trent Alexander-Arnold. Historically super attacking, Trent has produced a better non-penalty expected goal involvement than any other defender domestically this campaign. In a season where defensive options are hugely unconvincing, making sure we have the best of a bad bunch could be critical.
