Best Teams to Target
Milan - The Italian side should be one of your first stops when it comes to investment this week. They face a Slovan Bratislava side who sit rock bottom in the Champions League League Phase. Milan also go into the game off the back of winning their last two Champions League matches 3-1.
Barcelona - Barcelona face Brest at home this week, so it should be a good opportunity to continue their epic scoring form, one which has seen them net 14 goals in their last three matches.
Man City - Manchester City may be out of sorts, but there is no telling how long that will last. Pep Guardiola’s men, bar their recent loss to Sporting, have been excellent so far in Europe, and a home match against Feyenoord could be just what they need to recapture their relentless winning ways.
Leverkusen - You don’t need me to tell you how bad Salzburg have been, both offensively and defensively so far. With that in mind, and the fact they have a home match, Leverkusen could have huge potential.
Hernandez or Pulisic?
So Milan are a big appeal this week, and that isn’t really a suprise this week when considering they face Slovan Bratislava.
So, the big question is Hernandez or Pulisic, which is more of a priority?
Based on the fact Milan are yet to keep a clean sheet in Europe this season, the Italian side seem to be leaking goals left, right and centre. With that in mind, and the fact that Theo Hernandez isn’t pulling up any trees offensively, Christian Pulisic surely gets the edge.
As well as set pieces, penalties and his overall domestic form, ‘Captain America’ has also bagged a return in three of his first four matches. He also faces one of the worst defences in the competition next, and based on Milan’s recent 3-1 wins against Club Brugge and Real Madrid both he and his side go into the game in top scoring form.
Sell Gyökeres?
Gyökeres, a player many were disappointed with after his first two matches, but a striker we quickly realised was one of the best in Europe.
His hattrick against Manchester City wasn’t luck. Albeit, two of his goals were penalties, we should also remember he came close to scoring more goals with the big chances he missed, on another day he would have scored 4 or 5, scary right?
His upcoming fixture against Arsenal is a big factor, because the English side look strong again defensively. Arsenal are not like Manchester City, they defend better and concede much less big chances, so making sure we factor that in is important.
Fixtures after Arsenal should also be considered, he faces Club Brugge and Leipzig, two sides who seem to be leaking a lot of goals lately.
Outside of Haaland, Lewandowski and Kane, there aren’t many strikers with good fixtures, and if there are, they are either a rotation risk or play for an inconsistent side.
With all of the above in mind, even when taking into account Sporting have recently departed with their manager, I think Gyökeres is a hold, unless you are using a Limitless this week.
Best Wednesday Players
The Wednesday is a bit of a disaster isn’t it? The fixtures are extremely underwhelming, but having several assets play, may be important for team balance.
Outside of Mohamed Salah, who is probably the best player and captaincy option on Wednesday, it really is slim pickings.
Dortmund is a fixture we could look to, but with Emre Can a rotation risk now (more than ever), and Guirassy suffering from infection (causing him to be a doubt), there aren’t many players who feel convincing ahead of their match against GNK Dinamo. Even Gittens is a slight concern, he’s not great in terms of consistency and he could come off early.
One team I would consider is Stuttgart, they face a poor Crvena Zvezda. I’m not completely convinced that the German side will keep a clean sheet but I really like Maximilian Mittelstädt’ assist potential (six already this season). I also like Millot, someone who has already shown his talent in attack during the campaign.
Two other sides I would invest in include Celtic and PSV, both teams play at home this week, and both sides also have three great fixtures ahead of them.
I think I like Celtic more from an investment perspective. They have appealing defensive and offensive assets, all of whom come in nice and cheap, unlike PSV’s inconsistent attackers.
Johnston, Kuhn and Engels are my top three Celtic assets, all three have shown promise both domestically and in Europe, if pushed Kuhn is the one.
PSV defenders Boscagli and Flamingo also come in nice and cheap, at a time when there aren’t many convincing defenders in the game. Boscagli is the more steady asset in terms of ball recoveries, where-as Flamingo scored in his recent Champions League game.
