Expert View: FPL Reactions - Louis Roberts

In my piece for Matchday 11 in UCL Fantasy I mentioned for managers looking to maintain rank, it could be a good idea to split the risk. I did exactly that in terms of the Manchester City and Real Madrid defence an attack, owning and equal amount of assets from each position.

However, I also heavily invested in the Inter defence which resulted in a triple clean sheet. Ultimately my captaincy choices let me down but i still sustained my top 500 position.

The first second leg tie is Inter v Milan which means we can make our transfer plans based on the line-ups and more importantly ahead of the deadline. In terms of form, Inter continue to impress. They have won their last seven games in all competitions, and netting a huge 21 goals. This averages at three goals scored per game. Not just consistent in attack but they also banked five clean sheets in the same period.

Milan however, have been inconsistent. They have won just two of their last seven games in all competitions whilst also keeping just two cleans sheets. Milan are a team to target and Inter have already comfortably beaten them in the first leg.

Milan will have to claw back a 2-0 deficit. However, the return of striker Raphael Leao (€8.5m) is absolutely massive and could change both the teams dynamic and overall performance. Taking that into account, I think Milan will score in Matchday 12. The issue with Milan's thirst for goals in the round ahead is that their desperateness could also leave plenty of space behind, meaning they could be fragile defensively. For this reason, I also think Inter will score.

I believe Inter will win the tie which has multiple implications. One of them being that managers with Milan assets could be looking to sell now and save the transfers they will be provided with in the next round. We also have to contemplate what to do with our Inter defenders. It is likely that Milan score and if Inter progress, managers probably won't want to be heavily invested in them against either Real Madrid or Manchester City. One thing I would advise is that Inter defenders Denzel Dumfries (€5.3m) and Federico Dimarco (€4.7m) have attacking threat. This means that even if the clean sheet is looking unlikely, they still have the potential to return points.

The potential openness of the match could lead to plenty of goals and this is where I think managers can differentiate from their rivals. Some of the best differentials for this game include Inter striker Edin Dzeko (€7.5m), Inter midfielders Nicolo Barella (€6.9m) and Hakan Calhanoglu (€7.4m), Milan strikers Raphael Leao (€8.5m) and Olivier Giroud (€8.3m) and Inter midfielder Brahim Diaz (€6.2m).

Manchester City face Real Madrid in the second fixture of the matchday. Real Madrid have shown some inconsistencies defensively where-as Manchester City have won eight of their last 10 matches whilst remaining unbeaten in the same period. Both teams are averaging over two goals per game in the Champions League this season but what is significant is Manchester City's attacking numbers when playing at home. In their last 10 matches in all competitions at home, the English side have netted a massive 34 goals, averaging 3.4 goals scored per game.

I expect Real Madrid to sit back and look to counter with their clinical attackers. Whilst Manchester City look to box their opponent into their own half and look to slowly break them down. I'm not sure what to expect from this game although I am very sure we will see goals from Manchester City, especially considering their home scoring average.

I think if goalkeeper Ederson (€6m) has the potential to keep a clean sheet for his side but that is very dependent on his performance. Manchester City do not actually concede that many big chances but when they do Ederson's goalkeeping is hugely questionable. Although I wouldn't be overly keen in shipping any Real Madrid or Manchester City players out, mostly because whoever wins this match will be massive favourites in the final. It could be smarter to remove the Real Madrid defenders, I think they will concede.

Keeping all of the attackers from both Manchester City and Real Madrid is highly advised. Even adding in another Manchester City attacker could be beneficial.

In terms of differentials in this game managers could look to Manchester City midfielders like Ilkay Gundogan (€8m) and Bernardo Silva (€8.3m). Another way to differentiate could be by selecting a small block of Manchester City defenders in the hope Ederson has a good game.

My plans for the Matchday include looking to take money out of and sell Milan full-back Theo Hernandez (€5.9m) and Napoli goalkeeper Alex Meret (€5m). I will also be selling Napoli's Khvicha Kvaratskhelia (€5.9m). Players coming in include Real Madrid goalkeeper Andriy Lunin (€3.8m) who does not play. The main reasons for this is that as well as enabling money elsewhere, I don't see much need for a second goalkeeper, especially when we will only need one for the final.

Another player likely to come in is a Manchester City attacker to join his teammates in my midfield, that player could be either Ilkay Gundogan (€8m) or Jack Grealish (€7.9m). Replacing Hernandez will likely be Nathan Ake who comes in at a ridiculous price of €4.6m. I think Ake could start and I also believe he will play in the final if Manchester City progress.

This team would likely help me maintain my top 500 rank whilst also planning ahead for the next round
