CURRENT GAMEWEEK 34 FREE HIT DRAFT
This is how I’m currently set up:
Goalkeeper + Defenders

I wanted to get an attacking defender from Newcastle United but I think the trio of Marc Cucurella (£5.4m), Rayan Ait-Nouri (£5.0m) and Trent Alexander-Arnold (£7.2m) are the clear high-ceiling defensive picks for their respective sides.
In the last six matches, Ait-Nouri and Alexander-Arnold are joint-second and first respectively for most shots among defenders. Cucurella is second for penalty area touches in the same timeframe.
Nick Pope (£4.9m) at least gives me representation from the Magpies’ backline.
Ryan Sessegnon (£4.1m) tempts me but I am just a bit unsure about his minutes. Of the three promoted sides, I also fancy Southampton the most to score next weekend. The Saints had a lot of chances against West Ham, racking up 15 shots in all.
Only the three Championship-bound clubs have kept fewer clean sheets than Marco Silva’s side (five), too.
Midfielders

Luis Diaz’s (£7.5m) numbers have been impressive of late. No midfielder has attempted more assists (20) or created more big chances (five) over the last six Gameweeks. He has also registered 13 shots in the box, with Mohamed Salah (£13.8m) taking just one more (14).
Ideally, I want to double up on the Liverpool attack. With some uncertainty over Cody Gakpo (£7.2m) and Diogo Jota (£7.2m), I think Diaz is the second Reds midfielder I want to punt on.
Harvey Barnes’ (£7.5m) virtues have been extolled in my Q&A piece and I want to be a bit aggressive with my Free Hit, so I am likely to include him over the more secure Jacob Murphy (£5.2m). That’s with the obvious disclaimer that his absence from midweek training ground photos isn’t injury-related.
Cole Palmer’s (£10.6m) recent lack of FPL returns has been well documented but again, I want to go for the more explosive picks. On his day, there are few more high-ceiling options than the Chelsea man. This does hinge a lot on James Tarkowski (£4.9m) missing out as expected, while the other caveat is that there is some sentimentality associated with this pick: as a Chelsea fan, I want to own Palmer for one last time this season.
Forwards

Matheus Cunha (£6.9m) and Alexander Isak (£9.6m) are locks but the third forward spot is open for debate.
If Rodrigo Muniz (£5.5m) is likely to be absent from Fulham’s matchday squad, Raul Jimenez’s (£5.3m) expected minutes go up significantly. He is likely on penalties as well.
My faith in Fulham’s attack is a bit limited, though: the Cottagers have failed to score more than two goals in a game since Gameweek 14.
If we hear Muniz is back in contention, then I’ll likely go for Jorgen Strand Larsen (£5.4m) or Evanilson (£5.8m). Justin Kluivert (£6.0m), as a fifth midfielder, is also an alternative.
