Gameweek 25 Review

So close to the 100 Club! It was another good Gameweek nevertheless, with a green arrow from 37k to 31k.

The one free transfer that was available was used to bring in Morgan Rogers (£5.7m) for Ismaila Sarr (£5.6m), which didn’t exactly go to plan. Rogers had the chances but didn’t deliver and he could be making a swift exit from the team.

The Liverpool trio combined for 66 of the 99 points with Gabriel (£6.3m) and Chris Wood (£7.1m) the only others who delivered. Overall, the team is ticking along nicely this season and is in pretty good shape.

Offer me a top 50k finish now and I’ll take it all day.

There’s one free transfer available and £0.3m in the bank. My first thought is to move Rogers out for a Bournemouth midfielder. My preference is Justin Kluivert (£6.0m) but I’m £0.1m short for a straight swap…

When I activated the Assistant Manager chip a couple of weeks ago, the plan was always to move away from Arne Slot (£1.5m) and gamble on getting table bonus for the final week of the chip. I don’t mind doing so for a hit.

The alternative is to settle for Dango Ouattara (£5.1m) or Antoine Semenyo (£5.7m) and either stick with Slot or move to another ‘safe’ choice with a better fixture like Mikel Arteta (£1.5m) vs West Ham United at home. I think I like the Arteta idea more, even for a hit, than keeping Slot playing away to Manchester City.

Ultimately, the lure of the table bonus is going to be too hard to resist and I really want Kluivert!

Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner (£0.8m) appeals to me most despite it being a tricky away tie against Fulham. The Eagles have won five away matches this season, drawn four and lost three. That’s good enough for me. Most importantly, I rate the team and the manager. A one-week punt feels fun!

Looking at the rest of the team, the Newcastle double-up doesn’t feel fantastic with their upcoming fixtures but I have a lot of faith in Anthony Gordon (£7.5m) and Alexander Isak (£9.5m) so they’re likely to stay.

I’m open to playing the Free Hit chip in Blank Gameweek 29 if the squad needs it. Cole Palmer (£11.1m) has been disappointing recently but he’s got Southampton and Leicester City (both at home) soon so he’s also going nowhere.

The Nottingham Forest fixtures don’t look great in the short-term either but 18-goal striker Wood remains a season-keeper in my eyes. Unless there’s an injury or suspension, he’s unlikely to ever be the weakest link in the team. Only Mohamed Salah (£13.7m), with 45, has more bonus points than Wood (37).

The defence and goalkeeper positions are fine for now. Trent Alexander-Arnold (£7.4m), Gabriel plus one of the others should get me through to the second Wildcard. I’d like to own Daniel Munoz (£4.8m) but transfers are better spent elsewhere.

Captaincy isn’t straightforward this week with Salah away to Manchester City. I think he’ll get it but Isak and Bryan Mbeumo (£7.9m) are under strong consideration, too.

Best of luck for the Gameweek folks and have a great weekend.
