Hey Guys!

It isn’t long now until the Matchday 6 deadline and man it has flown!

With just two rounds left it is going to be very difficult to gain rank and/or a mini-league edge, but thankfully I will cover ways I think you can do that.

Firstly, captaincy. Captaincy is becoming more and more important as the competition rockets on. In fact, in my last newsletter I advised managers to drop their standards in terms of what they see as a good captaincy return from 9+ points down to 5+ points.

The above would have worked in your favour too if you had listened because a lot of players blanked in Matchday 5. In fact, if you had backed a France or Portugal defender for 6+ points last week and sticked you would have avoided the disappointment of captaining Cody Gakpo who blanked.

The bottom line is, if you get 5+ points then my advice would be to stick.

Whilst we are discussing captaincy, we should probably cover some options. Most within the community are likely going to back a France defender/Kylian Mbappe for captaincy on the first day.

For managers looking to gain an edge, I think we could consider backing a Spanish captain. Rodri could be an interesting selection for the armband. As well as ball recovery potential Rodri also has goal scoring and player of the match potential and we saw that in one of his latest matches.

Some could even look to a Spain defender. Marc Cucurella or Aymeric Laporte could be considerations. Most are likely to back the France defenders so not only owning but captaining a Spain defender could see huge gains.

Failing the above on the first day we could look to Netherlands on the second. England will be a hotspot for captaincy on Wednesday with the likes of Harry Kane, Jude Bellingham, Bukayo Saka or even a defender, but many won’t back Netherlands.

Because of the above we could consider a Netherlands attacker like Memphis Depay. Depay showed that he can outscore his teammate Cody Gakpo last week. This is because he has multiple routes to points, even after missing big chances Gakpo’ return came from a corner, something the likes of Gakpo and Kane don’t have in their locker.

You could even back someone like Virgil Van Dijk. England have shown bluntness in front of goal throughout the tournament so far and in fact rank worst or second worst amongst all teams who have played five matches for several key underlying offensive metrics.

Not only does Van Dijk have clean sheet potential in the game ahead but he also has ball recovery potential and goal threat from set pieces.

Stacking

Another great way for managers to gain rank, and a method a lot of the most experienced UEFA Gamers use, is something called stacking.

There isn’t much to stacking, you simply stack up on a team in the hope they get the result you need, if successful it can be one of the best and most explosive ways to gain an edge.

So what stack should we use this week?

A Spain stack could work well this week. Spain play France who have maintained the best defence in the competition so far. So, backing against that and injecting 3-4 Spain defenders into your team could be a massive differential combination. If Spain win to nil then the majority will drop and you will gain.

The stack mentioned above could include goalkeeper Unai Simon, Marc Cucurella, Aymeric Laporte and/or Jesus Navas.

Of course a France defence stack would still gain you some rank. A combination of Mike Maignan, Theo Hernandez, Jules Kounde and/or William Saliba could also be rewarding.

You could also do the above with Netherlands via Virgil Van Dijk, Denzel Dumfries, Stefan De Vrij and Nathan Ake, you could even include Marc Verbruggen or Stefan De Vrij.

An England stack may get a bit messier as with the recent system change, Luke Shaw’s return from injury and Marc Guehi’s return from suspension it could be difficult to nail down starters.

You can also use the above in the frontline, but I’m less keen because of the lack of goals during the tournament, or lack of consistent assets.
