Welcome back to my newsletter EXCLUSIVE. We have quickly arrived at Matchday 2 of EURO Fantasy!

Firstly I want to talk about captaincy. Unless you were a Florian Wirtz captaincy holder last week you probably failed to pick up a decent captaincy return. This shows that even with five days of captaincy, we may come up short.

The above is even more relevant this week because we have just four captaincy days, so we need to make sure we have a decent captaincy option for every day of the week.

So, with the above in mind, let’s take a look at Friday.

As we can see Friday isn’t a great day for captaincy options. However, we must remember that if we don’t prioritise a captaincy pick today, we may only have three opportunities for captaincy which could limit your potential.

So, with Kylian Mbappe out I think you should prioritise a transfer for an Austrian midfielder. Not only were they impressive in their pre-tournament friendlies but they held their own against France in Matchday 1.

In terms of actual options I think it has to be either Marcel Sabitzer or Christoph Baumgartner. Sabitzer plays on the left-wing for country, takes set pieces and potentially penalties where-as Baumgartner bagged two goals and an assist in the two matches prior to the EURO’s that he featured in.

If you can’t fit a midfielder in then you could always opt for France left-back Theo Hernandez who has huge attacking threat and has shown that multiple times for club and country.

When in doubt back talismanic player

When in doubt, back the talismanic players….I used this idea in my Matchday 1 team and benefitted from it thanks to both Dominik Szoboszlai and Christian Eriksen.

Both of the players weren’t massively convincing but that doens’t matter because everything runs through them - corners, free-kicks, creativity and goal threat, they have it all.

The fixtures look rough this week and many of the bigger teams are facing tough opposition thus limiting how well their top players could do.

For that reason, it could be worth backing talismanic players for clubs who have good or ok fixtures.

One example of that is Switzerland’ Granit Xhaka. Xhaka was fantastic in Matchday 1 and his performance helped him to the player of the match award. Xhaka faces Scotland this week and goes into the game with set pieces, goal threat, assist potential, an excellent historical ball recovery rate and as we have already seen, the ability shine above his teammates.

The above is also relevant for players like Czechia’ Tomas Soucek, England’ Jude Bellingham and Austria’ Marcel Sabtizer.

I didn’t want to ‘muddy the water’ as the saying goes, so instead of spamming lots of different ideas and plans for the round ahead, I felt it necessary to highlight the two points above.
