Welcome back to my newsletter EXCLUSIVE. We have finally arrived at Matchday 1 of EURO Fantasy!

There can be a lot of noise on social media which then makes it difficult to know who the essentials are for the first round. Fortunately I am going to reel off some players I think could be essential for your Matchday 1 teams, so lets dive in!

Italy’ Federico Dimarco (€5m) is personal favourite of mine, in fact I would go as far as saying he is one of the my favourite ever wing-backs, and I have been around for over 30 years.

Italy have a fantastic first fixture against Albania and one in which I think they could keep a clean sheet in. With doubt around system and personnel Dimarco is one of few nailed in terms of minutes in whatever system they play.

Dimarco isn’t just sitting at a good price, nailed into the starting XI and a player who could keep a clean sheet but also a major goal threat - scoring five goals and registering six assists for Serie A champions Inter last season.

Another player I would consider as essential is Maximilian Mittelstädt (€4m) 

Germany are the hosts which means that they are one of several favourites in the tournament ahead. This alone is enough reason to invest. It also means that Germany are one of two teams that play on the first day, and as we can switch captains every day, it makes sense captaining one of their players.

Whilst impressive recently offensively Germany have a lot of attacking players at their disposal which means we could see their minutes managed either ahead of the game or during the game.

The above is a major concern of course but it also means that investing in the Germany defence could be the play.

Taking everything into account then Maximilian Mittelstädt at €4m could be tough to ignore, especially when he also offers some attacking threat. An example of that was the two goals an four assists he produced last season for Stuttgart.

There’s a lot of great strikers up for grabs in this years edition of the EURO’, from Harry Kane and Romelu Lukaku to Cristiano Ronaldo. The striker I don’t think you can go without though is Kylian Mbappe (€11m).

After reaching the World Cup final in 2022, France remain one of the most dangerous teams in the competition and their journey starts against an inconsistent Austria.

Unlike with Harry Kane and Bukayo Saka, Romelu Lukaku and Kevin De Bruyne and Bruno Fernandes and Cristiano Ronaldo, Mbappe doesn’t have an equal asset amongst his teammates. In fact, most of the France attackers are either poorly categorised in terms of position, a risk in terms of minutes or their form just isn’t appealing.

As well as the above Mbappe goes into the competition as the highest owned player. So because of that, if successful then you could be in for a whole world full of trouble in terms of rank and mini-league position. Did I mention Mbappe is also probably the best player in world football currently?

Other players I really like for this round include Hungary midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai (€7m), Denmark midfielder Christian Eriksen (€7m), England midfielder Bukayo Saka (€8.5m) and France full-back Jules Kounde (€5m).
