Double Gameweek 36 is the penultimate double of this season. It is one of the final opportunity for managers to maximise the potential for players to play more than 90 minutes.

Brighton and Newcastle both head into their doubles on the back of a defeat in Gameweek 35. Here we take a look at both teams and who makes the best picks for FPL investment.

With two teams playing twice in Gameweek 36 managers will want to maximise their investment in both Brighton and Newcastle.

The Seagull’s have been riding a form rollercoaster since their FA Cup Semi-Final defeat to Manchester United. A comprehensive victory over Wolves and a last minute penalty securing three points against Man United, have been sandwiched between defeats to Everton and Nottingham Forest. This mix form alongside the hamstring injury that leaves Solly March a doubt for Gameweek 36 has made investing in Brighton more complicated for FPL managers.

Brighton have two away fixtures in Gameweek 36. They have kept just two clean sheets away from home all season. Only Leeds and Wolves have kept fewer with one each. Having conceded five goals and scored an own goal against Everton on Monday evening, some parts of the FPL community are debating whether De Zerbi might give Robert Sanchez the nod over Jason Steele.

If managers already own a Brighton defended then they should hold. However, managers should think twice before bringing in a Brighton defender this week, especially if it is for a points hit. For managers who have Jason Steele between the sticks keep a close eye on the press conferences for Gameweek 36 over on Fantasy Football Scout and make sure you have a back up keeper if there is any doubt over his place.

The attackers from Brighton do look much more worthy of investment. Alexis Mac Allister has now returned in back-to-back gameweeks. This is despite playing in a deeper, more central midfield position in these matches. The injury to Solly March will likely mean that many FPL managers make the straight swap to Mac Allister. His set piece threat from penalties along with his form also makes him the most attractive replacement, as well as the best pick from the Brighton attacking assets.

Kaoru Mitoma hasn’t had the same level of form in the last four gameweeks as we had seen in the early part of the season. In the last four weeks we have seen just one assist for Mitoma. However the underlining stats are still promising. The midfielder has had 11 attempts on goal since Gameweek 32, a number only bettered by Mac Allister across the Brighton squad. His three big chances is also a team leading total. Mitoma has also supplied 12 crosses and created six chances for his teammates. These stats suggest that a midfield double up of Mitoma and Mac Allister is likely the best route for investment in the Brighton attack.

For Newcastle. The talk of the FPL community is the decision between picking Callum Wilson or Alexander Isak.

With Leeds having conceded 12 goals in their last three matches at Elland Road most managers are expecting a Newcastle goal fest. Add to this that Brighton have only kept two clean sheets at home all season and picking the right Newcastle attackers is likely to be key.

Wilson has been Newcastle’s best FPL asset recently. He has scored five goals and registered 32 FPL points in the last four matches. In the same period Isak has scored twice and returned an assist which has earned him 23 points.

The underlying stats make for interesting reading too. Wilson has had just one shot in the box more than Isak. He has also had over double the number of big chances that Isak has. In addition Wilson has been more accurate than Isak with seven shots on target to Isak’s two in this period.

One of the key factors that FPL managers are discussing is the minutes played. Isak has played more minutes than Wilson and is more secure of starts. Wilson has only started in three of Newcastle’s last ten matches. In comparison Isak has started in seven of those games.

Whilst Isak is the more likely to start, he actually does not get a significant number of minutes more than Wilson. On average Isak has played seven minutes more per match than Wilson. In addition Wilson is getting the minutes later in the game when the defences they are facing are more tired.

If managers need to pick between the two Newcastle forwards because of their team structure then Wilson looks the best option. Especially with penalties in his locker. If managers can manage to own both then they could be a great option together.

With all the discussion over the forwards at Newcastle managers shouldn’t forget about the options in midfield. Joe Willock has had 12 shots in the last four matches which is more than any other Newcastle player. He has also supplied nine key passes in that period. At just £4.7m he is a great enabler with huge attacking potential.

Alongside Willock managers could invest in Joelinton. He’s scored six goals this season with four of them, as well as two assists, coming in his last seven appearances. He has registered 46 FPL points since coming back in to the starting XI against West Ham in Gameweek 29. This number is only bettered by Callum Wilson.

Joelinton has also had 15 shots in the last four matches of which 11 have come from inside the box. Seven of these were on target which is more than any of the other Newcastle midfielders. However the absence of Sean Longstaff for Gameweek 36 could mean that Joelinton plays a deeper role than normal.

Managers should look to maximise investment in both Newcastle and Brighton. It seems from the stats that two midfielders from Brighton, alongside a mixture of forwards and midfielders from Newcastle is the way to go. Especially when these are paired with Kieran Trippier and Pervis Estupinan.
